Default mots every two years ?

Just been reading an article that the goverment are thinking of making the mot bi-annual to bring it inline with the eu who mot cars for the 1st timw when they are four years old then every two years, What are your thoughts on this surley it will allow more unroad worthy cars on to the roads ?

Thing is we all worry about our MOT's but it keeps us safe I would rather they made tax every two years than double the interval of something which checks safety.

If they have to carry out this idea why not treat MOT's like services - Every 2 years or 15,000miles which ever comes sooner or something.

Ultimately this is one thing I wish they would leave as is.

2 years for an mot?? NO WAY!

id bet that a good 90% of car owners dont bother to maintain there cars and the only time faults get fixed is when its mot time.

god help us if this goes through

That's this government making an a.rse of something again leave things as they are . As said mot are crucial every year for safety can't believe the amount of car I see with badly worn tyres : god knows what these chancers would be like if it goes to two years

Cant for the life of me(and yours) understand why they want to risk so many lives being put at risk allowing cars that are not be fit to be on the road after 12 months, never mind the state they will be in after 24. For me im happy with the 3 year then 1 year after that system. Same as the road tax system, they messed around with something that wasn't broken in the first place. I could accept 24 month tests in a hot dry country but not a cold wet one like ours. As for road tax id abolish it tomorrow.

To be fair, an MOT certicificate is only really valid while the car is on the ramp.

You could drive away, hit a pothole, bend something and be none the wiser until the next check.

As it says on the Certificate : "WARNING - a test certificate is not evidence that the vehicle is in a satisfactory condition"

To me, it's just another tax on the motorist!

The government will lose quite a bit of income as will the MOT stations!

Those who are chancers, will always be chancers, no matter how often the cars are MOT'd.

At least those honest people going to an honest garage will get a fair assessment of the cars road worthiness.
