    Vehicle : Vectra GSi 3.2 V6

    Trim : GSi

    Engine : Z32SE

    Year : 2003

    Mileage : 256,000

Default 3.2 GSi clutch and flywheel

The clutch in my 53-plate 3.2 GSi may be on its way out. The pedal is a bit on the high side and it has had a 130,000 mile life, so a good innings.

I have read about problems with dual mass flywheels and mine must be suspect now too, since it is getting on for nine years old. When I start the car for the first time of the day - occasionally at other times too - I get a sort of chirp from the engine compartment. Could this be worn (or wearing) DMF components moving against one another? The car had a new serpentine belt, tensioner and idler a year ago, so I doubt it is that. There is no rattle when the car idles or when pulling away. It is slightly juddery at times when pulling away but the drivetrain is never anything but smooth.

I am asking because if I am going to need to do the clutch within the next six months, I may as well do the DMF too, if it is needed. However, they are ridiculously expensive!

So my main question; are there any solid mass flywheels available for the Z32SE motor yet? Does anyone have any experience of them? Where could I get one and how much would it cost?

    Any pointers would be appreciated.

there is no off the shelf versions however there is a chap on migweb that is able to make a solid lightened item as well as a modified sprung clutch to match, down side is you have to send him the originals to replicate and might be a few weeks at it, i no theres a few of us who would be interested aswel but knowone has yet been in a position to sarcrifice the originals.

Thank you. I shall take a look over on Migweb. But I use the car to get to work, so cannot be without it.

I wonder if he has a pattern to work to now if he's done a Z32SE before.

    hi paul,
I believe the test for the DMF is to slightly depress the cluth while the engine is ticking over and if a rattle is heard which then disappears when you push the clutch fully out then the DMF is going/gone.
your car is very quiet though....... compared to my best anyway lol

I think what you've described is the test for a failing gearbox release bearing - a grumbling noise that disappears when you press the clutch. If it's the DMF then the noise will get worse when you press the clutch.

Thanks guys. I might look into one from Migweb. But possibly mine is ok anyway. I do need to to the clutch anyway, though.
