    Default The riggs

    Morning all

The opportunity has came up with possibly getting my foot in the door with working on the Riggs it's something I have always wanted to do it's at the very early stages with doing courses ect ...... This is where I need advice with out a doubt there will be a medical ect and loads of paper work to fill out what shall I do as my hearing has gotten worse I have been to see a specialist and I have very slight hearing loss due to the (bones in my ear) being too tight it's very mild the option was there to either have a operation or a Hearing aid I opted for the hearing aid now do I say my hearing is fine ect or be honest if I'm honest I'm worried I will be rejected if I did get rejected I think it's unfair as i could use my hearing aid and be safe I understand the safty aspect to all this I'm just worried that this could fail me

    Thanks

I think you would need to check what the medical requirements are and what happens during the medical?

You are excluded from certain jobs if your site or hearing isnt perfect e.g. I wanted to be a fireman, unfortunately I am red/green colour blind, which automatically excuses me.

On the other hand you can still join the Police even if you wear glasses.

So, your best friend is normally Google, or even try ringing a few of the oil rigg companies?

You should not have any problems with the hearing when it comes to the medical part, i have really bad hearing and need hearing aids in both ears, best thing to do is be open with them about it, i tell them every time i have to do my offshore medical usually every 2 years for your hearing. They usually put me through 2 hearing tests on the day, one with hearing aids out and one with in, usually have a sit down with doctor who will ask about hearing.
As working offshore is in a noisy environment i never wear my aids outside and always use hearing protection so when speaking to other lads the talking is usually that bit louder and never have any problems, lot of offshore rigs use head sets and radios so this also helps with the communication.
Best thing is not to worry about it as when you are in the sound rooms for hearing test you start to hear things that are not really there, just the mind taking over
