Can Bus is a system that send's pulses of voltage/information...

only thing different is that you have to fit cancelers if fitting led's or hid's, a quadlock is needed for stereo swap over and on full canbus car's the security code runs through the stereo and screen and they have to be divorced from the car before thay can be used oin a different one

CANbus is a network of electronic control units (ECUs). Some years ago cars had just one ECU, and it controlled just the engine. Nowadays most cars have a network of them, covering many other components, such as the lights, stereo, steering, etc etc. This allows the system to be very "clever" and monitor many functions of the car, making it harder for Joe Bloggs to put his screwdriver to work and make willy-nilly changes to components.

The main reason for canbus is the sheer amount of wiring you'd need to interconnect all of the different computer units on a modern car. Canbus reduces this down to just a couple of wires, as it's in effect the same as a computer network.

It enables more functionality too, as now all the different units can look for information that might be useful to them on the bus. So little things like the rain sensor for the wipers, the door lock state and alarm state can be monitored by the electric window control unit - closing the windows if it rains and the car is left locked and unattended. Without canbus that'd take a fair bit of wiring which takes up room, is prone to connections failing and it heavy.

The issue it can have with non-standard lights is that the lighting control unit does more that just supply power to bulbs. It can test for a blown bulb and it pulses the power supply in order to make the bulbs last longer and take less power. This is fine for the bulbs that GM designed it to use, but if you fit LEDs or HIDs they can behave oddly.
