    Default 2.0 Turbo oil..

Just been onto my local vx garage to order parts for servicing the car. I was asking prices of oil etc and the parts guy was saying all there mechanics use 10w 30 semi synth oil if they get a turbo car in...now i have always used 5w30 fully synth previously.

Its a standard tune car, so in reality what oil should i put in? I used to get the car serviced at this garage, so obviously they must have used 10w30 in it previously. I know the ten is thicker but in reality, what difference if any will the thicker oil make to a standard tune car??

    Cheers guys..

Unless it's done serious mileage I'd stick to 5w30 personally. It's what I always use in mine. If it's done silly mileage then yeah up it, but in that case I'd go to 10w40 instead, but only if it's really done some miles.

When they say they use 10w30 that doesn't mean they think that's the best GM oil for the Z20NET, it means by using only one type of oil it makes it easier for them in the workshop - "Turbo? 10w30 it is then", rather than having to see which engine it is and which oil it should have in it.

No, its the oil they reccomend for this engine, as im only buying the oil and servicing it myself. Hence me questioning it since i have always used the 5w30..

I might just go with what they are reccomending, unless someone has a good reason not too?

If the guys are like the ones at my parts department i wouldn't listen to a thing they say.

Once went in for a pollen filter for mine, they give me a air filter i told them i asked for a pollen filter not air filter, to which they replied, 'There the same thing arn't they?'

    Total utter idiots

I remember reading in Auto Express once that Ford refused to pay out for a warranty claim on an engine issue because the service booklet showed 10w30 oil had been used one time instead of the required 5w30 - I'd believe Vx rather than the garage.

    Vehicle : Vectra Estate

Fully Synth 5w30 mate - 10w (cold rateing) is too thick for this engine unless mileage requires as states.

To be honest - VX normally choose between Fully synth 5w30 or 10w40.. Not seen 10w30 used much..
