    Unhappy Auto box 'collapsed'

    I bought my 53plate 2.2 Elite not long ago, can't be a month now, with 34K miles on the clock. All was going swimmingly until monday and it lost drive as I was going to overtake the truck i'd been following up the 616, pulled over and let it settle itself and it was fine. Until wednesday, when just about to turn up a side road in Sheffield and it happened again, limped to the side of the road, let it settle then continued driving albeit gingerly, called my local Vx garage and they said bring it in and show us the Fault!!! . And then on Thursday evening coming home it happened again but it showed me the service light.

    Straight onto Vauxhall Assist (AA/Network Q thingie) and they led me home (about 300metres) and then recovered the car to Pentagon Friday morning.

    Now they say the gearbox has collapsed, and 4 or 5 major items require replacement. I'm not interested in how much its going to cost as as far as I'm concerned the gearbox is a major item and should be covered under the network Q warrenty they gave me. But I have yet to get an answer out of them as to;

    What has collapsed? Whats likely to have caused it? Will it happen again? and What on earth are the 4 or 5 major items that need replacing?

    Can anyone shed any light for me? They've given me a 56 reg 1.9 CDTi (150) until tomorrow (soo much turbo lag, how do people put up with it?), but they can't tell me whether they'll be able to supply me with a car whilst they are fixing mine, if indeed Network Q will fix it.

    If it's under 3 yrs old it should be covered.

    I think collapse is just a term they use for un-servicable, if it's gone into limp it's normally an electronic problem coupled with a knackered torque converter.

    Added to that, it's an early edition of that box as well, I think they did have a few early issues with it anyway.

    it's out of the 3year Vx warranty but should be covered by the extra year given to me when I bought the thing from a network q garage.

    Cheers for that.

    well the garage won't commit to anything without a field engineer coming out. As I say i've only had it a few weeks ( & 3000miles) so I'm not overly impressed.

    Ahhhh, I've had this before, I had a cavalier when Vx only gave 12 mths warrenty, I bought it from a Hyundai dealer @ 2 yrs old and 65k.

    Anyway two weeks later i'm limping, I take it back, the dealer sends it off to a local specialist, two weeks later I get it back, it's still limping, eventually the dealer orders a Vx re-con box and fits it themselves, after that it lasted another 60k before i sold it on as a px.

    So regardless of NetQ, under the terms of sale they have to fix it for you, the field engineer is probably just being sent to confirm no foul play, you should get full satisfaction here.

    As VV says, the NetworkQ in my experience is sometimes BETTER than factory warranty.

    Though sometimes that isn't hard

    Ok thanks, you've settled my nerves a bit. I must admit I wasn't impressed. I'm impressed with the AA fitting me out with the replacement, but that's got to go back tomorrow but the garage aren't even going to claim for my repairs until monday. A car was offered but only until monday, which is a pain as I work a fair distance away. I'll have to use two wheels for a few days.
