Default Can anybody help with these niggly problems??

You`ll have to excuse me, i`m new here so not sure if this is in the right place, or if it has been posted before, if it has could someone link me to the relevant thread please.

We have just bought a Vectra SRI and it came with HIDS fitted, now ever since we have had it, occasionally it will flash up on the clock in the middle saying check left low beam, coupled with this sometimes the left light wont work, but if you switch the lights off and on again it comes back on.
I could of lived with this but now its started flashing up saying check left brake lights, these are fine and there is no problem with the actual brake lights but the strip light in the middle of the boot has a bulb out at either end which leads me to my second question....are the strip light bulbs easy to replace??

Any help would be much appreciated

The HID bulb itself might actually be on its way out. I work with high end show lighting and its a sign that the lamp is on its last legs. It might be having a problem keeping the arc stable due to the annode and cathode being ever so slightly destroyed whenever the lamp strikes. There is a higher voltage initial power up that throws the arc across which is why it works after you on off.

My Signum has a bulb check error every now and again on the brake/ tail lights. Check the contacts of the bulbs. I bought dirt cheap bulbs ehich seem to get corrosion on the terminals.

The 'bulbs' in the hi brake light are LED's so it's probably just as easy to change the entire module?

Maybe the ballast resistor is starting to break down?

had a similar problem..after being told,by HID DIRECT that the ballast was naff and it would be £25 to replace I decided to investigate.

Long story short it ended up being the electric connect blocks.I cut them off and used crimp on connectors and insulating tape..job done..cost about 50p..

That's also a possibility. You'll be able to see the ball in the centre of the bulb might have a white 'dust' type material inside and the ball itself might be deformed. It should be more or less a perfect sphere.

Admittedly it's easier to see on the bulbs that are 7000 watts as the sphere is about the size of a tennis ball, but if you look closely you'll be able to see them on the 55 watters.

Whatever you do, DON'T put a multimeter over the output of the ballast.
