    Default L.O.L. = 80's Technology

    SEE PICTURE .

People of a certain age will smile when they remember they used to do this ,

and kids of today will laugh , bewildered . l.o.l.

Kids today don't know what rewinding is .

I used to use a Bic pen to rewind my tapes .

did we do it because we wanted to save our batteries power ?

i had many walkmen ( is that plural for Walkman = l.o.l. ) when i was younger , but it was a few years before i got a walkman that fast forwarded AND rewound , i think it was an Aiwa ( eye - o - wah ) .

My sister had a Philips walkman that was yellow and a triangle shape .

Do you remember listening to the radio top 40 songs on a Sunday night ?

and you had your finger on the pause button , ready to record your favourite song ,

    BUT ,

you were praying the D.J. ( Bruno Brookes in my day ) would NOT talk on the beginning and end of your song .....

    They were the days .....

Oh yes, the good old days. It was a bic biro for me as well.

Occasionally the hassle of going in to my dad when the tape got stuck and unwound all around the tape heads so the stereo had to be taken apart to get it sorted.

i remember being amazed as a teen ( it didn't take much back then ) that i could clean the tape heads with a bit of cotton wool and some alcohol cleansing stuff .

    Ahh , i've just remembered something ,

    HIGH SPEED DUBBING ,

copying at twice the speed or half the time .

How many members , like me , used to cellotape there tapes back together when they snapped ?

i used to buy the best ones i could get for my pocket money , i think they were called Chrome , can't remember if that was the quality of tape or the brand name .

Although spinning it in the direction shown in the picture with the pen where it is would result in it UN-winding and all getting horribly tangled up (not that I did that by mistake a few million times or anything)

    L.O.L.

i remember many a time my cassette getting chewed by my cube hi-fi

and having a load of " spaghetti " on the floor .

l.o.l. = i also remember cellotaping my cassette together and not knowing i had twisted the tape ,

so , i would be listening to side A and suddenly 10 minutes in , it would switch to side B , without taking the tape out the deck .

    ===============================================

Sliding Graphic Equalizers ......... How Good Were They ?

as a kid you thought you had your own bedroom studio .
    -----------------------------------------------------------

i always wanted the Amstrad hi-fi with all the knobs and buttons on the front ,

it changed the sound of the music and sped up and slowed music ,

it was really technical at the time ,

    But , i never got it .

Not showing my age here at all, but there were three different qualitities of tape, standard, chrome and metal. Think the metal ones were about a £5 back in the 80's.

I still have lots of tapes and some blanks, although havent played them for ages and yes, if I had a pre-recorded tape, I would fix it with celotape.

My Technics system has ( I still have it) high speed dubbing for tape to tape and also, if you are recording from a CD to tape, you entered the tape size C30, C60, C90 or C120 and it would calculate how many tracks you could have one each side.

A C90 was about the best as you had 45 minutes each side and could normally record a CD or LP onto one side......

As for the BIC, you could go into Tandy and but a tape rewinder, it fitted onto the tape and had a geared wheel to aid fast rewinding.

Oh I also had a Ronco record cleaner, that used to spin the record between a set of brushes, supposedly cleaning the record.

Unfortuntaely it seemed to build up a huge amount of static on the record instead.
