is it right that if the car/spanner symbol pops up just after iv started the car and then it goes off, means that it has codes stored?

Yes, it means its seen a fault in the past that is no longer current. After about 20 restarts it should go unless it sees another fault.
i thought as much...
il stick opcom on it and give it a clear out
cheers

Could be the glow plug(s) are needing replaced/glow plug relay could be faulty.
oh... well the cars been stood for 2 months and the battery went flat trying to start it.
il clear the codes and keep an eye on it.

Glow plug or plugs. I was getting the same, as soon as I changed my plugs no more light.
I changed all four.
It could be old stored codes. But hey should clear after a few fault free starts.
With the nearly flat battery the glow plugs will be draining the battery
The EMS might be misunderstanding this and recording it as a glowplug fault
Monitor this over the next few weeks and compare
Providing you are taking the car for long runs this should recharge the battery, and the fault should no longer appear
However if it does then there is an erratic fault that needs resolving
i took the battery off and charged it overnight so the battery's ok.
il give it a few days or if i can get of my arse, il put opcom on it.
cheers all
