    Default Signum Power Steering Pump.

Bigdave and I seem to be on the same quest, to buy a Sig 3.0 V6 cdti!!

I havent yet picked up the black one that I posted about last week, what with work and all. But tonight I popped in to see the previous owner to find out if there were any problems with the car when they traded it in.

Turns out its on its second power steering pump, and the lady that owned had a "feeling" that the second (2 years old) pump was failing. Not much more than a feeling apprently. This was born from the fact that whilst out in it one day, there was a "funny felling" from the steering!!

there was also an intermitent cruise control fault.

On saying that, she loved the car and was sad to see it go. The main reason for trading was the need for 6 seats.

Her husband was saying that Vauxhall power sterring pumps are a known week point. Is this the case?

I did think I might still and go get it, with a warranty and if the pump fails then I can get it sorted for free. The car really is immaculate and they obviously loved it.

    What are your thoughts?

never had a problem with a power steering pump on any of my vauxhalls... not noticed any threads referring to them either, they may be some but lets say its not a common fault i am aware of.

No, mine has just gone, all the springs and shocks went before the pump!

However as with all new parts, only covered by a 1 year warranty

As for the cruise control issue, this points more to a CIM issue and the power steering replacement may have been an incorrect diagnosis by an independent garage (as the steering warning appears)

Personally, I think everything on Vauxhall is now weak, shocks, springs, power steering pump
Didn't have all these issues on the Vectra B, the Vectra C seems to be horrific for these failures
Well, they have to make money somehow...

I am doing the same annual mileage and general vehicle use as I was 15 years ago
For Vauxhall I am comparing my previous Vectra B against my current Vectra C

My previous Vectra B was fine until 70K miles, then suffered an intermittent engine fault which was never resolved and was strike 1 for its disposal
The entire exhaust was then replaced, after the centre section failed shortly followed by the down pipe
The cylinder head was skimmed at 120K miles, which is common for all the cars I have owned
The air con pump went at 130K miles, but the system was never right after this and was strike 2 for its disposal

My current Vectra C has had all its springs and shocks replaced, something my Vectra B never had any issue with
The power steering pump failed but I am still awaiting on a replacement and fitting, which is the second component failure since the warranty expired

Generally I accept wear and tear, and can generalise this through the tyre and brake renewals

Again, jumping to the expensive option

Its much more likely to be the spring on the clutch pedal, brake pedal or the actual stalk itself.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

181,000 Miles on same pump with same fluid from new. I am not aware of these being a common part to fail. Anyway, £50 off ebay and can't be difficult to change - access is probably the only issue.

I recently changed my front strut top mounts on my v6 siggy and I thought my steering pump was getting put under strain before I changed them as I could tell it was struggling . But once I got the new bearings fitted all is fine no more rumbling on the steering and my light don't flicker now when turning just a thought for you to check could be the top mounts putting strain the pump
