Certainly does not make economy worse and as it is a mod you can do yourself you have nothing to lose.

Just to say that my Vectra SRi 150 had an appalling lack of low end 'pull' so much so that I had to go into first when it really it should have easily pulled second gear.

I removed the cowl in the bottom of the airbox (It's not a 'flap' as some describe it, flaps move the cowl doesn't) and saw an immediate improvement.

I then bit the bullet and sawed through the trumpet in the lid of the airbox, cutting it diagonally in half effectively making it an air scoop.

Itís like driving a different car. Low down torque massively improved and on a run fuel consumption has gone from 45mpg to over 51, Iím assuming because I donít have to depress the accelerator so far for the same result. Itís probably me, but i swear it runs smoother at normal road speeds as well.

Others have said that these protuberances into the airbox air for noise reduction but I havenít noticed any difference

Clearly, in standard trim, the airbox is strangling this engine.

I have done the mod by taking the piece off the bottom of air box and noticed an increase from 34 to 38 mpg. I have the issue of crap mpg so thought I would give it a go. Just cleaned my egr and boost sensor too so fingers crossed the mpg will creep up as it is shocking at the moment!!

I think the air box mod allows more of the air filter to be used, when I changed my air filter it was only dirty at one end.

I will see when I come to change it again, after the mod.
