Default What will happen if its left??

Having a look over my partners astra 1.9cdti 120 i noticed the dreaded swirl bar laying on its side. The car doesnt drive any different and actually goes better than mine which has a working bar. I have this and a few other issues to make me want to sell the car but we buy any car have offered silly money so i may be stupidly thinking of doing the cambelt, saving for the dmf and leaving the inlet as the cars running fine if a little noisey. But what will happen if i leave the inlet, will something go drasticaly wrong or stay as it is. Im guessing the valves are jammed in the closed position hence why its running fine. What would normally be the symptoms of jammed closed valves? Will it be eating diesel, it has no fuel computer so a little more difficult to work out if its chewing the diesel. Any help greatly appreciated.

With the valves jammed closed it will overfuel slightly and this can be witnessed via the black smoke that will come out of the exhaust at higher revs (above 2,500rpm) when booting it. The valves in the closed position also cause the engine to work harder at higher rpms. Leaving the rod off long term isn't really recommened imho. Lots claim they don't have running problems with the bar off - neither did I, but the problem is that the bearings have worn causing the rod to fall off. The bearings wear in the axial direction meaning that they can come out of the manifold or be swallowed by the engine eventually, causing damage. Get it changed when you can.

Also take into account that Webuyanycar.com would do a check of the swirl valve bar when you hand over the car (as it's such a common problem on a common engine) and they'll reduce their offer.

Dont take it to we steal any car... Their prices are just ridiculous. You'd be better of selling it privatly. I look at WeBuyAnyCar now and again when i'm bored just to cheer myself up with a laugh lol :P

Edit. In fact I just did. They offered me 900 quid lol... still laughing.
