Help brothers car won't

My brother just rang me he said he ran out of fuel whilst driving so he parked up and went for some fuel but know it won start. He says it turns over but won't start up. He's been trying for over half hour, any ideas ta

what car? if a vectra runs low (cdti) it takes more than one jerry cans worth of fuel before it will crank over, it cant build enough pressure in the fuel rail with one can.

wot type of car is it ? petrol or diesel ?

i had a petrol focus and i had to turn the ignition on and off a few times to reset the fuel pump but just turn the key to the dash lights come on leave for a few seconds then off
