    confused 3.2 Thermostat Help Please

    Hi All,

I am attempting to chnage my thermostat, i can get to it under the plenum and remove the two bolts that hold the housing in in the niddle of the V.

But cannot for the life of me see how it is released form the other end, i dont want to pull incase i break anything, it must be bolted near the manifold but cannot see how.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

I think there are three bolts that hold it down, iirc you need to remove the plenum.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Just had a look, there are only 2 bolts that hold it in. Not sure why but it says to remove the engine lift bracket too then just remove the stat and housing after taking the hose off. I guess a good wiggle and pull should get it out. Doesn't say its clipped in or anything.

    The tightening torque is 25nm.
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Excellent guess brute force and ignorance then, just looked like its attached to a plastic pipe and was concerned about breaking it, will remove the lift bracket and see if that helps.

You need to remove the intake flange, as well as the plenum to get the thermostat housing bolts off.
The pipe that goes into the housing is made of aluminium and can be very brittle so be careful it can shatter. This pipe is secured to the engine block using a bolt that also attaches the engine lift bracket and dipstick pipe to the engine block. This bolt needs to be removed to get the pipe out and remove the hose connected to it.
It can be a bit fiddly getting it all back together so take note of how all the bits fit to the engine block so you know how to put the bits correctly. Also you will need to fully clean the aluminium pipe going in the housing and use some clear silicon grease to ensure a watertight connection inside the housing.
