Question Condensation under the bonnet? Why?

    Hi All,

This is on a Hyundai Accent not a Siggy/Vec btw...

Has anyone ever owned a car that has sever condensation under the bonnet? The car was misfiring from cold on damp cold days... arcing of the HT leads of course. New leads, new plugs and still the same problem. Fitted a new coil pack and the car runs a lot better but this morning was doing the same.

Popped the bonnet and the engine was SOAKED, like I had cleaned it down with a sponge! Alass it was arcing onto the wet insulation of an electrical harness that ran along the bracket to earth... Once the moisture burnt off it stopped.

My question is, has anyone has this on another car? (It has no padding on the inside of the bonnet like the Vecs do)

Is it coming in from outside although I would think that would just drain out onto the floor?

How the heck do you get rid of all that moisture?

My conclusion is that I am going to have to keep leaving it a couple of days after a long drive to condensate and then wipe it down with a towel until all has evaporated, condensed and been wiped away... It may of been my fault for cleaning the engine bay down when the engine was warm a while back

Does the underside of the bonnet have sound deading material, or is it just painted metal?

If the latter, then that could be the cause. Had the same problem with my Mk1 Astra years ago. Condesation would drip off the inside of the bonnet directly onto the distributer cap and leads. Applying a thin layer of silicone grease helped prevent the leads from breaking down with the dampness.
