    Default tampering with turbos??

    hi
just had my turbo reconditioned and egr valve replaced.
alternator still whining a bit but not too bad dont wanna pay for it as the aa will replace it when it goes.
    however.....
when i was in collecting the car, the guy that fixed the turbo for me was saying that he had another 120 turbo coming in and it doesnt have a home.....
    so
what he suggested is machining the inside of the turbo and putting a 52mm wheel on the inlet (i think) anyway the bottom line was that by fitting this modified turbo and a new intercooler i would be looking at around 220-230bhp

has anyone had any experience in modding turbos or has anyone modded a vectra turbo??

    cheers

I have seen 16v's with uprated units reach these figures with the addition of water/meth injection & another remap... not seen it on an 8v yet

That would be imence if it can be done.. Although surly that figure would be a bit high... Prehaps arround 200 with the intercooler and a remap along with the hybrid turbo

I been running a hybrid turbo and a FMIC on my 150 for quite a while now. The difference in power is worth the expense and i still get 48mpg +

Any details on what hybrid turbo you're running, which FMIC and any other mods (and who did the remap) please?

Sounds like a fun toy Any chance of posting a pic of the dyno graph to compare?

its still running my orginal BSR remap as I am still saving funds for an EDS IPF.

You really need to be sitting in the car to appreciate the difference

    other mods:

    K & N Panel filter
    Pre-cat pipe
    Main cat removed
    Stainless steel exhaust
Uprated Sachs clutch (to cope with the extra power!)

Sorry but I think someone is talking ********. Tell the guy you are happy for him to fit this fantastic turbo for you and you will pay him the asking price when it goes on a reliable set of rollers and makes 210 bhp.
A 120 turbo with a 52 wheel will be a big improvement over the OE 1749 if it is done properly and of that there is no doubt. You will also need a remap and the ultimate power output will depend on your other supporting mods and how well the car is mapped but take my word you will not be doing 220-230 bhp unless of course you are using silly boost which will goose the turbo in short order.
To get to 230 bhp I had done a whole list of modifications including fully decatted exhaust, large tube and fin FMIC, EGR delete, lots of other minor modifications, water methanol injection and a 1749/56 turbo.
Forgive my scepticism but I think it is well placed and you should be cautious of wild claims.

Have to agree with Harvey smith on this one as I know he has huge knowledge on building turbos, I don't think I read the original post well enough before I made my post.

There is no way the 120 will make 230bhp. As for this guy doing the turbo it is a very specialisted job whom I would only trust with AET or similiar. Mine has been blueprinted etc so I know its good.

The 8v engines can't flow air in and out fast enough to make that sort of power. With a 52mm compressor you might make 200bhp.

Trust me 210 bhp is possible from the 8V if it is done properly and you know what you are doing but that is still well short of the bull**** he is promising and that is without reference to the considerable supporting mods.
