Default Windscreen Wipers don't like the cold!

Although we've had few frosts this winter so far, I've noticed a recurring problem with the wipers on my 2006 Vec that happens when the temp. drops below zero.

The wipers work on normal/fast wipe but the 'flick' wipe only works if you hold down the stalk - when you lift off, the wiper arms stop wherever they are! Plus the wipers have actually continued wiping (in normal mode) even after the ignition was switched off and the keys removed a couple of times.

Its done this a few times, but only in the frosty conditions. Once the temp has crept up it seems to resolve itself!

Anyone got any ideas? I guess the frost must be getting into something to make it throw a wobbly!

Just had exactly the same mate.
Had to change my wiper motor due to ingress of water inside the motor. All info here.

My previous Vec (2004) the motor failed and I replaced that. This works fine until the temp is below zero then it acts weird. As soon as its warmed up its fine again!

Following your thread showed another thread which mentioned the Winter Wiper Safety feature - I'm not sure whether I believe that or not but the symtoms are exactly the same!

Hmm so another dodgy motor then - or is it a case of strip, clean and re-grease?

I have stripped my old motor I think it would work now but havent tested it. It needs something round the cover to help seal it, thought of slicone but its not very robust.

I think it is a failure and not a feature.

Time to search through ebay for a motor then!

I thought the facelight model had seen the end of wiper motor/linkage problems

I have the same problem and it's a right pain, haven't got round to pulling the motor out to have a look, and don't fancy do the mod that has been mentioned in other threads, but then i don't want to buy a new motor and still have the same problem, thankfully it hasn't been that cold this year so hasn't been a problem...........yet
