    Default 2003 vectra c 1.8 ls Timing Belt/water pump

    Hi there

I am getting My timing Belt and Fan belt changed tomarrow.
    The car details are:-

    2003 Vectra 1.8 16v LS
    Mileage:- 67000

My question is; should i get the water pump done also?? The car runs perfect at the moment, water pump works fine and currently I am not going to change it. A friend said to get it done as they do not last.

    Any advice please.
    Thanks

get it done as if it fails it will take the cambelt with it, shouldnt cost any more than the price of the pump as it only takes an extra 5 mins to fit

A but would the coolant not need drained etc adding more time to the job?
I replaced the coolant myself only 6 months ago and it can be reused so no extra cost there.

Any idea to how much a pump would cost?

pump will be around £30 and for the price of coolant just stick some new stuff in. Doing a 1.8 belt kit and pump including the coolant should take no more than 2 hours so dont let them charge you any more than 3 hours labour

Shame you didnt post a few days ago as i was in slough doing Turion's 3.2 belt, pump and service then watford doing a 2.6 beltand pump for a lad on vvoc yesterday. how much have they quoted you?

I am not on the mainland. I have been told £60 labor for the timing belt kit and fan belt.(i buy the parts) It will probably cost me more if i ask them to do the water pump also.

    Thanks guys for the reply's.

Car is away today, said to the guys to fit new water pump and they said they will check the pump for any signs of damage etc and replace it with new one for me. If pump is good order, they said no need to change it and wont.

I will hear latter today what the outcome was.

    Thanks

thats daft, it might be fine now but your belt kit will be on for 40k or so and the pump wont last that long.
seeing as the belt has to come off to do the waterpump your going to get another labour bill in the near future plus the price of the pump anyway
