Default 1.9 CDTi Estate - sigh, alarm going off!

    Hi all,

    First post.

Just bought a 70K 55 plate yesterday and it's fairly pristine. I'm over the moon with it aside from a couple of niggles. Drove it home from the dealer yesterday and no issue. Go to a camping shop and pick up a big new tent and pop this in the boot and drive home. It had rolled around a bit. After about half an hour, notice lights are flashing. Disarm, arm and sit back down. After whatever time going off again. Repeat until fade. I disarmed it and deadlocked it.

Driving into work this morning and I notice that after switching my window defrosting on, only the top half of the back window defrosted. Bottom half stayed as it was. Might be co-incidental, might not?

I read up on here about Vectra Estate's and the alarm going off. Most likely this is the break wire in the rear window. I'm not getting any Safeguard warnings but, when I arm the alarm it flashes instantly.

I've read that a solution is to simply short the two sensor wires or remove the fuse "23" in the boot fuse board. The latter sounds the simplest? Would this "fix" the problem (assuming that this was the cause)? The car also has 3 months warranty. Return to garage for them to sort or ball ache?

    Thanks in advance.

Return it to the garage. At lot of people sell cars because they have issues with them. I think you have just found the possible reason your car was sold on

Same for me.i removed the fuse and no more false alarms. Don't forget to try the alarm mod. Worked on mine and I can hear it now.

Weeeeeeeeell, I've removed the fuse and, so far, so good, no random alarm going off.

    Stupid question alert:

When arming the alarm, with the fuse removed, it still flashes immediately after depressing the lock button on the key fob. Is this to be expected with the fuse removed? I was expecting it to go back to "normal"? I'm wondering whether the issue regarding the wire in the rear windows is the issue after all. Or, can I now safely ignore the flashing from the LED?
