    Default mot fail - headlight

my vectra failed its first mot today on the headlight alignment. Now I know how to adjust it but I dont know how much by and Halfrauds want 13 quid each side to do it.

Does anyone know the correct height for the beam if I set the switch to 0 in the car??

    thanks

If you have access to another car you could park it up, mark the positions of the lights on a garage door and where the lights on the car are in relation to the drive and then park your vec up and align them the same. Or stop being a tight ass and pay to get it done correctly
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

yeah im going to give that a go anyway. But it annoyed me because a I spoke to Vauxhall and they said it would have been done for free by them anyway

    Where was it carried out?
Did they show you the result of the test?
Did they offer to perform this for you?

Most likely cause is that the bulbs are not seated correctly
    Have you replaced them?

£26 for complete check and adjust
A little pricey, although sounds like they carried out the MoT?
Phone a few other MoT outlets see how much they want
    Although they may want £20

If you had taken it to a reputable place, they probably would have done it for free! They did with mine on last test but those were after market lights I fitted, if your's are standard and the car is going for its first MOT I would be rolling back into a VX garage and asking them why it failed. Halfords may be trying to pull a fast one, they are known for it.

it was done by Halfords autocentre. they didnt show me how far out it was though

they are the original factory fitted bulbs, the reason they gave was that they were probably knocked out of line by speed bumps.

    Speed bumps??

Never heard that one before! Normally caused by sagging suspension or a bump on the front of the car.

Halfords Autocentre (Northampton) have adjusted mine in the past for free when it went in for an MOT.

I am supprised they didnt offer to do yours, at the very least I would get them to check again as it sounds a bit dodgy to me.

also did you get the MOT half price with the autotrader offer?
Lois Griffin: Peter! You're bribing your daughter with a car?
Peter Griffin: Ah, c'mon, Lois, isn't 'bribe' just another word for 'love'?

As others have said, 99% of MOT centres will do it for free.

It's a 2 min job - providing nothing untoward is wrong.

Cheeky gits for trying to charge you. They're already earning £54.85 from you, and have the audacity to want a further £26.
