I've posted this in the 'How2 Discussion" forum but for a wider audience I apologise for putting it here as well...
I've just got hold of auto-dim mirror, rear light, illuminated visors, rain sensor and complete loom for £35, which I feel is a right result. Anyway, I have just stolen an hour's time from work and been down to have a look at sussing out how to go about getting the loom into the roof space with a view to then using the tip about using plastic packing cable to guide the various connectors to where they need to go and then pull them through the relevant hole in the headlining. Some questions for all your learned members:
1. Is it absolutely necessary to remove the visor holding clips, or will the headlining drop enough along the side of the car to slide the loom across to the centre where I'll pull it through the main roof light hole?
2. How does the clip holding the trim to the inside of the C-pillar undo? I don't want to knacker it and it seems fairly well set.
3. To fit the rear roof light I suppose that the headlining needs to come down quite a way to allow access to the 'recess' where the light fits. From my quick look the headlining is again very rigid across the boot top and along the side of the car so how much force is required or are there any tips to make this easier? Is there velcro involved? Alternatively can I guesstimate where it should go from inside the car?
4. Will the rear light fit in without the metal surround that should line the hole (it came without this) or will the weight of the light make it drop out?
Thanks for reading this far down, all replies gratefully received...
