    Default 1.8 mpg on motorway

Just purchased a 56 1.8vvt and was wondering what the average reading for MPG was on the motorway?.I was doing 70 with cruise control and watching the instantanous MPG I rarely reached the 40's usually sat 33-38 is this what I should expect?.Was hoping to get a bit more

I've got 44mpg on a long run 160miles on motorway, that included traffic around the M50 Dublin. And yes mine is a 1.8VVT

    Instant MPG is just that
Pay more attention to the average and reset whilst moving for more accurate results

The 1.8 should return an average of at least 45 mpg and instant of between 30 and 60 mpg

My typical instant MPG on the motorway is between 30 and 40 mpg
However it can be as low as 7 mpg when accelerating on an on-ramp, and as high as 999 mpg when decelerating
Equally, when closing up to the rear of a HGV or coach it can increase substantially, I've had 110 mpg before when the driver knew I was directly behind, discussed prior to driving (but wouldn't recommend trying this on a day to day basis)

I do Durham - Nottingham via the A1, M18, M1 and can get 42-43mpg at a steady 70 - 80mph. MPG does tend to go up during avg speed cameras on the roadworks near Wetherby to around 48mpg! lol

If you drive with c/control on the mpg does go down. The VVT is quite good at sipping the juice but you have to stay off cruise control to achieve it.

I did Stockton to Huddersfield and back on Wednesday, driving was mainly at 70mph expect the 50 mph limit on the M62 and a few miles in town, came back with a 43.6 mpg for the journey.

Mine is stating about 33mpg on local trips, so you should get around an extra 10 mpg on a decent run!
