    Default Insuring my son

My son will be seventeen in June so i thought that I would get some quotes for him.It wasn't too bad adding him as a named driver whilst he learns but I then did another one saying that he has a full license. I think £5,000 was the cheepest Does anyone know of any specialised companies that deal with young drivers? Otherwise I can't see a way of him getting insured.
    Thanks folks

It's cheaper for him to learn but once he's passed you'll not get insurance cheaper than that unless you get his own policy. Even then don't expect less than £1500.

my advice, get him on his own policy ASAP

my daughter did this as soon as she got her car,

added me as a named driver ( i am old and have 3 policies with 9+ years NCB )

    which reduced it a LOT,

and due to failing her test 3 times, had a years NCB 2 days before she passed her test.

Being a named driver on another persons policy just delays them getting on the NCB ladder themselves, and can sometimes be classed as a fronted policy.

    Or http://firsttimedriver.info/guide-to...urance-quotes/.

I convinced my 18 year old son with a provisional licence to save his money, not buy a car (save on the insurance) and get taxis everywhere .

Norwich union run a black box scheme to reduce the costs .. Prevents certain things and limits occupants etc.. But a good way of racking up some valuable experience

Group 1 corsa Directline was about £2.2K one and half years ago in his own name. We tried every way to get a good quote with out being ecomomical with the truth.
The year after it dropped to £850 through a web site. The message is pay now or pay later.
If you find a cheaper way please tell me!

worth knowing, due to a change in european law, as of 20th dec 2012, isurers are not allowed to discriminate on the basis if gender, This will almost certainly mean that, with the same insurer at least, women will on average see price rises and men see price falls. Exactly how prices change may depend on the competition in the market and how consumers respond,

I assume there will be quite a drop in premiums especialy within 17-25yr olds........, eg - try doing a quote for your son, but put down he is female.. i know its another 11 months away! but hey ho!
