    Self cracking windscreen

just went out to the car and theres a 9inch crack running from the roofline to eye level, wasn't there last night and best bit of all there is no sign of an impact point, the crack is smooth all through on both sides, is this fault in the glass process and should I claim it under Vx warrenty?

Thx Dunc, I've just e.mailed Vx about it, I wont hold my breath though, if I end up having to cough for this, it's the last time they will see me as a customer.

It's obviously a design flaw, I'll let the ppl know how it goes and if I get any result from them, it has to be a flaw, the cars been stationary for the last 30 hrs, and def wasn't cracked when I got out of it yesterday, it's parked offroad as well.

Most of the engineers with vectras on our fleet have had a windscreen go for no reason , All i can think is the screen is placed under a lot of stress .

I'm going to try to get Vx to pay the screen excess at the very least, not happy about it, I changed insurance firms only 6 mths ago, and now it's gonna cost them £500+ and make me look like a bad risk.

Sorry to hear that m8 I know how you feel it happened the same way with me. Ok one minute cracked the next. Seems to be a problem with the strength of the glass when the body flexs. The fitter who changed mine said he has changed hundreds of Vectra windscreens and he also stated that the face lifted versions are worse!!!

    Sorry to hear this VV..

Same thing used to occur on the Seat Leon Cupra R.... the windscreens were under so much load they used to crack with the body flexing all the time...

I would hate to think how much one of those Astra Panorama Roof/Windscreens cost !!!

I shouldn't worry about that. Insurance companies process hundreds of glass claims a day. Don't think its anything to worry about. Thats why it doesn't effect your no claims discount. Sorry to hear bout your misfortune though! Guess it would be better if a stone or something did the damage!
