    Default problems!

    vectra cdti sri 150 2005 60k

hello new member here, unfortunatly i have only been a vectra owner for 2 months and have had nothing but problems!!!

symptoms... feels slugish low end and lacking power, 1st and second gear revs upto 5000rpm but in 3rd gear enters limp home mode at 4000rpm.

took it to garage and fault code suggested airflow metre, changed that! same day new fault... code p0234, suggested new boost control sensor... fitted!.. still same symptoms. next changed boost pipes, mine were starting to perish... not a huge noticable difference in low end boost.. and same symptoms still exist.... question?... if the fault code is still in the system and not turned of will this still cause the car to enter safety mode, even if fault is fixed???

have read a few post on cleaning egr valve but not sure how to go about it or if i might do more harm than good.

mechanic also said it could be turbo presure release, sticking open?.

please if im missing something jump in and let me know!!

great forum, some helpfull reading and guides on here.

    thanks... graham

thanks trouty, i have been reading thru them most of today, apart from what iv tried already,( with the exeption of the egr valve ) i dont see anything that solves the problems im having specificaly the fault code iv got p0234, has any one had a problem with the turbo pressure release system? (if thats what its called) as thats what the mechanic said he was going to check next, im just eliminating the things i can do myself cos im getting ****ed with how much this car is costing me, it was meant to save me money! lol

Sounds like you have an air restriction or leak - previous problem with air flow meter (MAF) followed by P0234, which I believe is a turbo boost sensor error, suggests you're struggling to pull air into the inlet manifold (which is where the boost sensor sits).
Mattolly could well be right - a badly leaking intercooler, which the turbo pushes air through, could reduce the air pressure - can you hear a whilstling or whoooooooooooo noise as you lift off the accelerator after high revs? If so, could be an air leak.
BTW, EGR is dead easy to clean - follow the How 2 - make sure the solenoid moves freely too - if not, you can drill through the back of the electrical connector to punch out the press-fit internals and clean it up (no where near as frightening as it sounds!). It's worth cleaning out the EGR insides in any case - it's surprising how they affect the car at low revs even with a small amount of carbon build up on the sealing surfaces.
Lastly, maybe worth getting a 7mm socket to remove the built in jubilee clip on the air intake hose into the throttle body to make sure the butterfly valve is working ok in the throttle housing. You should be able to move the valve easily with your finger with the engine turned off, but they can be coked up if your EGR has been playing up. I have heard that the electronics control module on the bottom of the unit is susceptible to oil ingress and solder dry joints, but don't know what the symptom of this is.
Anyway, good luck. Let us know how you get on.

Forgot about the swirl bar - all of the problems I've had have been on my 120ps Vectra which doesn't have the swirl bar. My 150ps Astra has been as good as gold to date (fingers very crossed).

My vacuum hose split on the elbow connector attached to the front of the engine block - just a small pipe, one of two, from the vacuum unit. Really hard to spot, but made my car almost undriveable - no EML though from what I can remember.
