    Default Bodywork Quote... thoughts?

    Hey again guys,

Well I took my car into a mech who we use quite often... so he 'looks' after us.

Anyway I went to see him about some bodywork that needs doing and shown him the big scratch that was down the nearside of my car (This was like this when I bought it)

Some of it you can't see due to it getting dark... but i'll give you an idea how long it is...

So as you can see, it's pretty long!

Now the scratch itself is deeper on the doors... but on the nearside wing it's not very deep and this probably could be sorted out with the usual scratch stuff you can buy and do yourself.

He's quoted me £240 to do the job on both doors.

What does everyone think? Fair price or do you think I should shop round?

    Lew

(PS. Please accept my apologises for how dirty its looking... it's gonna get a good wash this weekend pending weather)

Depending on where you live, the usual rule of thumb is £70-£100 a panel. Then you have blending and feathering so the paint is seamless. It's not simply a case of G3'ing your wing and shooting both doors as the colour could be a mile out due to age, bleaching and wear and tear.

I think it's a fair price as the wing and both doors will be painted, plus there will be blending into the rear quarter.

I could be wrong but it doesnt sound too bad to me.

Some lovely person keyed my Audi A6 a few years ago, full length of the nearside, quotes were around £600!

Well he said that the wing doesn't really need doing as the scratch is not that deep at all... if you run your fingernail over it, it doesn't stop... whereas the doors are a different story lol

He said the paint job will be for both doors... the wing he wouldnt do as would need doing the whole thing... but again due to the depth and length of the scratch, no point in getting it done professionally.

Whoever done the scratch had start from the rear door and ended at the wing.

I, personally would include the wing. If you're going to do the doors, then you WILL need to blend onto the wing anyway and the rear quarter or you'll end up with two different blues, trust me.

I thought you had a friend with a bodyshop, not a mechanic who can 'spray'... I wouldn't let anyone touch my paintwork unless that was their trade...

Hiya mate, my car is Black not blue. Plus I do trust him as he's done a lot of work for not only me but my Dad, Sister & Brother. I can't fault him.

It was more just a query on the price aspect as I didn't know how much something like that would have cost to do thats all.

No problem buddy. My mate has a professional bodyshop, and the need to blend is fact. I know people who can spray well, and letting them do odd parts, like a splitter of similar would be fine, but I'd be wary at bigger panels. It's a good price for a professional sprayer...

    Best of luck. Dave

Cheers mate, well I did forget to mention that he does own his own garage which has just been extended and got new equipment in. He use to be a mechanic for Ford. I've seen work he's done for other people and spotted a car he was working on today and you wouldn't even know it's had a paint job... he is very good. If he had any concerns then he would tell me.

But thanks for you're concern anyway, I will mention it to him when I come to get it done later in the year.

    Cheers,

    Lew

fair price - but as said get it blended you might be ok with it being black though (if its not im sure he'll have spare paint and then just flash the wing and quarter in afterwards)
