It is not a "five minute" job deciding who to give the position to. It is only fair to keep it open for a while so all members who can apply have been given enough time to do so. Anyone in the running will still be in the running when all applications are looked at. As said above it ios a bit too early for too many meets. But if you have ideas for meets keep them in mind incase you get the vacant position a RO.

why dont you appoint a temporary RO for the mean time, someone that will still be considered for the permanant position but can organise events in the meantime?
