    Default ODB2 communication error

    Hi,

I have a 2003 Vectra 2.2 DTI. I've been getting a check safeguard error message.

I bought a ODB2 reader to try to find out what was causing the problem. I plugged it in but it fails to communicate with the car. Here is a picture of my ODB2 socket, does everything look as it should?

    Cheers

Also check fuse No 11 in the fusebox at the passenger end of the dash. It is for the diagnostic connector and it should be a 7.5 amp fuse that is fitted.

I've tried both of these and still no joy.

Reading this, could it be ODB1

Is the car OBD1 or OBD2?

    (1) Was the car made to be sold in America from 1996 onwards or is it a car that was imported into the USA from 1996?
    (2) Is the car petrol and registered new from 2001 year for the European car market?
    (3) Is the car diesel and registered new from 2004 year for the European car market?
    (4) Has the car got a small D shaped 16 pin diagnostic socket located inside the car

If the answer to question (1) is yes, the car is OBD2
If the answer to Questions 2, 3 & 4 are yes, the car should be OBD2
If the answer is only yes to question (4) the car will normally be * OBD1
    * Many Ford, cars are an exception to the normal rule. Ford put the OBD2 system into some Ford petrol engine cars sold in Europe from 1996 onwards but not in the the Escort model.
If the above picture is a small D shaped 16 pin diagnostic socket then I only answer yes to question 4, making it ODB1. Does this sound right.

is it a cheap one from Ebay or manufacturer specific?

My VAG com reader does not read the Vec, hence why I have torque on my phone and a bluetooth OBD2 reader (and Op-Com).

Reading the Ebay listing again and other information I think this is the case.

Think I'll keep the scanner though, I only paid £17. It may be useful for other cars in the family.

    Thanks everyone for your help.
