Default 2.2 se water pump/ temp gauge problem.

Hi guys, last tuesday I replaced the water pump on my 2.2, after I finished work, luckly i'm a techie at a local villiage garage, all went well changing the pump so that was all good,
I left it on the ramp whilst I mopped up the mess under my ramp and left the car warmed up, once hot the cooling fan came in and everythings good! Soooo, I locked up and set of home for the night,
as the car got to running temp I noticed that the gauage creeped up a little more than 90 degree's ( ive owned the car 3 years and it never goes above 90 on the gauge) so I put the heater on "hot" and the fan on full blast and that bought it back down abit.
I got to work on wendesday and checked the water level and all ok there, but it creeped up again on the way to work then settled again, as I pulled into my parkin space i heard the cooling fan cut in and out and the gauage was around the 95 degree mark,
That night after work i pulled it back into the workshop and checked for air locks as by this time i'm getting paranoid!!! but everthing checked out ok! grrrrrr!
(at this point I have to say the bottom hose of the rad only gets luke warm,) (as I cant remember ever noticing before the temp of it?)

and once again the temp gauage creeps up and drops again when the fan comes in.
so on friday I spoke to Vauxhall Techinical as were a trade club member and the chap on the other end of the phone said that i'd done everything i'd done was correct and had a head scartching moment with me.

so i left it and decided to run it as all seems ok apart from the temp gauage creeping up and the dropping once the fan comes in.

Over the weekend ive done around 300 miles with this happening and most of it has been motorway work, and the gauge was sat just below 90 degrees and just seemed to creep up as i slowed in traffic and traveling though villiages??
And I seem to have chilled out a little, as i'm really anal about my cars and it always seems worst when you have alot of knowlegde and your so deep into it that you can't see the end of your nose if you understand where i'm coming from???

    So the question is!!!!!
Where does your temp gauage sit?
and do they creep as the car gets hot (like a older car) as i'd never notice this before and now it's giving me kittens, also would you be able to check your botom coolant hose and see how hot yours get after a run, I would be really grateful! James Chambers

Was it a genuine water pump you fitted?

The top hose is hot, the heater warms up as normal and all the hose seem to be the correct temps, as for fitting a OE pump it's not I fitted a FAI one, Ive fitted loads of them to other cars at work and never had a problem!

Could be thermo stat sticking slightly?

Was thinking maybe water pump wasn't pumping enough but if you haven't had problems before then should be ok.

Really sounds like a thermostat that's refusing to open.

Is the thermostat easy enough to get to on this engine?

Was thinking whip it out an drop it in a pan of water on the stove to prove that it's opening properly
