Default V6 CDTi - Air box mod & non standard filter.

I recently tried the air box mod with and without a K&N filter. Couldn't really put my finger on it I wasn't happy with whatever combination I tried. So in the end, I've gone back to standrad air box with trumpet in and standrad VX air filter.

So what have you V6 guys got and have you noticed any difference, good or bad?

Did this mod when I first got the car 4 1/2 years ago, I thought I got slightly better mpg at the time. Still averaging 25.9 mpg over thousands of miles and all types of driving.

You can test the modification before applying it, by simply removing the box and comparing
On some engines there is a difference, so it is worth applying

However the weak point is the connecting pipe between the inlet and the air box
Make sure it is correctly aligned and not lose
Quite often it becomes dislodged during bulb replacement of the offside headlight

    That's horrific
I push mine hard and get at least 30mpg
For the first 50K miles the displayed showed around 32mpg
For the most recent 50K miles it has increased to 34mpg (since the SCV and DMF were replaced)

Your car is diesel manual I think, mine is petrol automatic and many short journeys of less than a mile.

When I tried the air box mod + K&N, the car felt different - a bit lethargic on acceleration when overtaking and lost it's crispness() but the MPG was about the same at 37-38.

Hence the reason for starting the poll and asking the question. It might just be me and that damned placebo effect again.

See I got the opposite when doing mine I first took the restrictive part out, which seemed to help with pick up, then I decided its time I bought my first ever K&N and was surprised how much better it was on pickup, it was like sniffing salts for my car it could breath and felt 100% better for it still have this setup today I'm not sure it's producing BHP but you can tell the difference when pulling off that's all.

Bog standard for me. When I did the airbox mod on my old 3.0 it gave the engine a resonance on idle. Performance wise it might have been better, but the differences were negligible.

i have the airbox mod, a K&N panel and have today removed the plastic bit behind the grill. on a 150 mile round trip the throttle respone is noticeably better not sure about mpg though. Might have been 'poking' it a little bit
