Dti Thermostat

First of all, apologies for starting another thermostat thread, but most of the threads I've read up to concern the cdti's so I'm hoping for a little advice.

My car - 2.2 Dti - as far as I can see is showing all the signs of a failed thermostat. I know various people have said diesels take longer to warm up & the Dti's are overcooled, but I'm convinced mine has failed. The heater gets warm but not hot, but the temp gauge never moves. The car is used for a 50 mile round trip every day in rush hour traffic on a mix of motorway & B roads. The only time I've saw the gauge move was in the summer while doing 70 on the motorway, whenever I got stuck in traffic the needle would drop back down.

I'd be grateful if anyone who has done this job on a Dti could tell me if the thermostat can be removed from the housing & tested & replaced seperately or do I need to buy the whole housing. Obviously I'd prefer to just replace the stat if it comes out rather than shelling out the wrong side of £40 for the whole unit.

Any advice much appreciated.

The thermostat can be removed from the housing it is only retained by its crossplate and retaining spring just depress cross plate and twist to release , its a tough spring but can be done . find yourself a quinton hazell stockist for the replacement thermostat element i can not remember the part no but it is listed on the Q h website .
