Exclamation Where do i start.... Battery, fuel. Omg!!

For a while now my 05 CDTI (120) has been hard to start when it cools down, it would whine and splutter as if it was drawing air in somewhere before firing to life but it has come now where the battery is draining before it kicks so I've been jump starting it with my wife's car. i have checked the hoses and pipes for breaks and all looks dead on but I did notice a damp patch on top of the diesel filter housing so i replaced the filter hoping i had found my problem. the next morning i turned the key , she whined and spluttered for about 20 seconds before the battery died ....... AHHHHH!!
Put the jump leads back on, whined and spluttered for another 15-20 seconds and then fired to life. Not filter housing then! OK!. So I went to work (Taxi Driver) last night after jump starting about 8pm. Wasn't too busy so didn't really go too far but at 5am I got a run bout 20 miles up the motorway. When i got to my destination, I Realised that my wipers where slow and the radio turned turned off. the car was reving high and the abs lights came on the dash, power stearing then failed and the spanner on dash came on. all power from the battery had gone, managed to crawl the car home, knocked her off and now she is dead

I AM BAFFELLED! has the battery sh!te itself or the altanator. How do i test it!?

I would appreciate it if anyone can advise me on what to do next because i have run out of ideas and patients. could all the jump starting wreck the battery? why would it die all of a sudden with no warning? and when i get the power sorted why is she hard to start? thinking glow plugs next... is there a way to test these?

please, please, please...... if anyone has any ideas, can u share them with me

    thanks in advance

    Marty

Vehicle : Mk1 renault scenic... I know I know but it drives

    Trim : Basic

    Engine : 1.6 16v

    Year : 2003

    Default

Alternator is dead and more than likely kileed the batt now aswel.

Need to check glow plugs that all are getting 12v andnthen check resistance to aswel.

Cold starting issue on the 120s is an issue that a lot of people are having but can't find a definitive answer.

Noise I would be checking alter belt etc, but this may gonnce a new alt is fitted.

Is it the original batt? As if it is could be justna couple of cells have died andngot giving enough cranking power.

So I say change batt and alt, use a genuine alt as vecs can be twitchy using after market ones

Yeah although no charge warning light appeared it still sounds like alt to me.

Maybe jump start it, and get multimeter and check charge

Turn the meter to volts black lead to earth red on the top of the glow plug should give you volts reading

Then turn to ohms for resistance should ideally take the glow plugs out but can still be done in place it's just not as good
