chck voltage drop across the pos cable to the starter. could be high resistance.

are all the glow plug definatly working?

also i no clios are prone to crank sensor (tdc sensor as its known to renault) going on the blink causing delayed starting.

might just need to come off and have a clean

not sure how much room their is to work on the deisel but on my 1,z their was loads so nice and easy

the crank sensor was at top center of gearbox bell housing. think its a 2 pin connector on it.

have you got a multimeter? if so check each plug for voltage (red on the plug black on engine block or batt neg)- note might need to keep flicking the ign key for the glow really to atcivate them
then need check resistance of each plug, should really remove them to check to can be done in situ
