Default Timing Chain at Vauxhall Dealer

I phoned up my local Vauxhall dealer for a timing chain price to be changed on my Sri Turbo 2007 model Z20NET. They would not give me a price over the phone and they said they don't do them unless they break . I said the engine will be dead if it breaks. They then said we don't get any issues with that sort of car / engine. I could not get any further forward with them about getting the chain done on my car . What can I do next?

As always, when getting quotes phone at least three outlets (no matter what product or service you are buying)
Presumably this was Saturday morning, so they could not be bothered

You're the customer, that's the work you want done
If they don't want your work they must be minted...

However I tend to agree with them on this specific job
If it ain't broke, don't fix
I would only consider this if the belt was noisey, rattling, etc
Equally, it should only need to be replaced as part of other work (typically other engine damage)

    Finally, it's a 2007reg
    What warranty does it have?
    What mileage is it on?
The chain is not a scheduled item, but it should be inspected around 100K miles

It has no warranty as I bought it private. It has 57k on the clock 2007 Sri turbo. The branch I phoned up was Evans Halshaw, it's the place that does all my work for me my local Vauxhall Branch. I might book it in for the noise from cold and see what they say then.

Yes, that's a better action plan
Likely to be the steering pump, roller or auxiliary belt
It certainly shouldn't be the chain, you will hear that all the time

The chain doesn't need to be replaced unless it's making a noise.

Try another garage (if it actually needs doing, how old is the oil and what grade?), sounds like they have never changed one so i wouldn't want to be the guinea pig!
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

Equally, once the chain is replaced the engine is never the same
I've had three cars where the chain has had to be replaced and the owner has reported all kinds of problems thereafter, resulting in the car being disposed of and replaced
It is now our company policy not to even bother, the car just simply goes to disposal

If its done correctly before it snaps it will be as good as new, why wouldn't it! Points to a poor mechanic imo.

a chain replaced correctly wouldn't lead to any problems what so ever.
