Default buying 06 1.9 cdti 120 what to look for anyone

hi guys.have posted on newbie bit but figured its worth a shout on here.
got option on 55k sri model which from what we saw last night looked good other than small cig burn on back seat and few tiny marks on paint.only one key though.full service history.
so going back tomorrow in daylight and the owner has already pulled ad.its going for service at main dealer but waiting to see what gets done.the guy has owned it 3 years and he is in forces so mainly motorway miles.everything looked ok from my limited knowledge, lol but not clued up on diesels and he is selling due to leaving forces and doing the better paid private sector!
i have read about the coils but how are you supposed the check them?
any other advice is extremely welcome

When I bought my Vectra B in 1999 I noted it only had one key
I then phoned my insurer at the time and they confirmed they would not insure the vehicle as acquired in that condition and wanted to speak to the dealership directly
Network Q reluctantly agreed that if the second key could not be found within 28 days they would honour the request
Provided with a courtesy car for three days whilst they completed the work

when you depress the clutch there should be very little to no change of feel or sound level compared to when the pedal is not being depressed, if there is an increase in noise when not depressed and excessive vibration through the pedal it means that the dmf is on it's way out, this is an expensive job and as you are buying private there will be no comeback on the seller....

. Dual Mass Flywheel: Usually knackered by 100k miles, maybe sooner if abused (harsh gear changes, stalling, etc). - this has to be considered a very expensive service item as the same problem seems to afflict most car manufacturers. Not an easy DIY job, so expect to pay a garage around £1200

    DMF failure :
Sit in the passenger seat with the engine running
Open your legs and put the palm of your hand down on the seat between your legs
If you can feel any vibration, this may be the from the DMF

    Perform the usual road tests
Be wary for any signs of what appears as clutch slip, with power applied but no change in speed, another sign of DMF failure

For springs and shocks, the usual tests apply
Check the top and bottom of each spring
    Also look for corrosion
During the road test try to find speed humps that run across the entire carriageway, the car should respond equally across the car

If you've never performed a check during a car purchase, there are plenty of books about it, and I posted about this a long time ago
I know dealerships will advise "No need for all this, the car is covered by warrant" but it's your money not theirs

    I usually make 3 visits
The first is to view the car and negotiate a provisional deal (subject to test drive)
The second is the test drive a few days later and inspect the car, pointing out any defects to be rectified for the third visit
The third is to inspect the car fully and ensure any defects have been rectified

the biggy for me is timing belt and waterpump replacement ! this is the biggest known fault of the 120 engine , 55k is a good time to get it sorted as part of the deal ! poor cold starting is another problem and no one seems to have a definate fix for it
