Default 3k revs and thats it.....

    hi gents,

52 plate 2.0 dti, i can not get above 3k revs, as it reaches 3k there is a sudden (little jerky) drop to 2-2.5k revs, idles ok but sometimes hesitates to climb the revs.

cleaned EGR/inlet manifold and boost sensor....

read somewhere it could be turbo actuator?

all help appreciated....need to get son back to hospital next week and desperately need the car...

start by checking all the vac tubes & connectors... the tiniest of splits can cause this

Clearly EMS going into safe mode
Has it not shown the engine management warning light?
If not, does the bulb actually work before starting the engine?

Either way, needs the codes read to diagnose why the engine is going into safe mode

The EML should come on when you start the ignition sequence, visible on the far right hand side, and go out once the engine has started

If the EMS is unable to contact a sensor or the response is outwith specific criteria the fault is recorded
For certain faults the engine is put into safe mode
This ignores certain sensors and puts the engine into a default setting which includes limiting the revs
This should the prevent any damage to the engine, allowing completion of the journey and getting the car to a garage without breakdown assistance

In extreme cases the EMS receives so many fault warnings it will not start

Check your vacuum tubes and pipe work for splits along with inter-cooler hose. This will cause limp home mode if they have any splits.

This is rather common with the DTI engine. They do tend to degrade over time.

I replaced all of mine with 2mm silicone pipe from flea bay for the grand total of six quid or so for 3m of the stuff.

I say try the easy simple stuff first then progress to the more complex and exspencive repairs.

    thanks lads.......

eml comes on when she starts, then goes off.

going to get codes read (if there are any) tomorrow, and ask for smoke test to see if there are any air leaks.

don't think it's in safe mode,
after i cleaned the EGR and inlet manifold i done over 100miles without problem, bunny hopping returned next day.....then cleaned the boost sensor, and it got worse. i cant find splits in pipes but that don't mean there are none.

not as bad now but will not drive it as its not safe for other drivers.

managed to get over 4k revs today then juddered and revs started dropping....

Eml comes on when first stared. This could be a glow plug gone or old stored codes. If it goes straight out then its normal. You can get them cleared then re-read them to see whats thrown up.

Intresting......Did your car ever hic/hesitate or even just cut out before the limp mode set in.

I had issues with my 2.2DTI doing this which was rather dangerous when driving. It's fixed now though .

Your just at Gateshead. I would be willing to take a look if you felt you could get your car 15 mins down the A1 to Cramlington. I cant promise a quick fix but I'll have a good Idea where to start.

    I would accept DTi-Steve's offer.
My guess would be EGR sticking whilst the engine runningc and i would also suggest de-cating it, this will also help the car to rev better.
