Eek Kuhmo KU31 Ecsta Spt Are Made No More

Im gutted now after finding out a need a new tyre due to my alignment scuffing on edge of my ns rear and I can't get the same tyre no more as the have ceased production on them and the new ones are the KU39 ecsta now. I must have ocd as I like to keep the same tyres on each axle but I only need on on the ns rear as the offside has got loads of life in it still.I rang a local tyre lad who comes in my wifes sandwhich shop and he confrimed the same.Only problem now is the new ones are not in the country for 4 to 6 weeks. He can get others but dont really want to blow the bank getting two tyres when I only need one.He said he can fit me two Accelera ones which he had on his Audi and was impressed with for £180.Now Im not bothered about names as I have had pirrelli p zeros on before and my car just killed them in no time but the Kuhmos Ive had on latley are just as grippy wet and dry and have been a really good tyre.Im not bothered about spending loads on named tyres as I might be selling the car this year.Anyone had accelera on? I run 19inch snowflakes and want a grippy tyre nothing special as Im not a race driver.

I'm the same, I prefer to have the same tyres across the axles of a car

You are doing the right thing in trying to find an alternative, if you don't want to swap to the updated / alternative version
Equally, put two of these new tyres on the rear
You can then ask them to remove the part used tyre and give it back to you
You can then store it should either of the KU31 (now on the front) wear our unevenly or suffer a puncture that cannot be repaired

have a look at these. They are a bit more expensive but are a good tyre. Better than the accelera (alpha I presume as the beta ones are even worse).
Now I need a turbo to keep up!

M8internet makes a good point, the accelera tyres are fine, i've had mine on the front for about 5k miles now, and there ok for motorway/steady town driving, you can push them through bends when warm, wet or dry.

Don't get me wrong, they're not the stickiest or best tyres in the world. But if you don't drive like you stole it, they're ok.

Funds permitting I would always buy "branded" tyres, however recent events at work have meant tgat money is tight and these do the trick just fine.....

Thanks for your comments. I'm going to get two accelera fitted in the morning on the rear and yes the Kuhmo is going into the shed for use if ever needed on the front. They should do for what I want to do as my boy racer days went a long time ago now and I only do about 6000 mile a year and I'm looking at getting a new shape Astra cdti next year if all goes to plan.

I have had fitted 4 Accelera's (2 fronts 8K ago and 2 rear around 4 K ago) However I have had a bit of trouble with the fronts.
Nearside stopped holding pressure and would not seal (rim fine) It was replaced by my Local tyre fitter who supplied.
I was lying under the car last night removing the engine tray and thought I was seeing things. The tread section of the tyre where it meets the inner wall of the tyre is 'cracked' around the circumference of the off side tyre. Went back to the supplier this morning and he said it would be replaced. If I had not been messing around I would have never have spotted this potential fatal defect in the tyre.
I am not replacing the tyre with an Accelera. Bad batch not sure. Supplier said that they had not had many problems with the brand.
I will be checking my remaining tyres more regularly in the future on the inner wall as well and may just ditch the Acceleras.
I will see if I can get a photo tomorrow

Yeh used Kumhos on both 'B' 17"s and 'C'' 19"s . Had a few issues with the back tyres wearing and feathering on the rear inside edges on the estate. Other wise good tyre with decent wear.
Pity they are being discontinued as I probably would have changed back.

    That sounds more like underinflation
    What size and tyre pressures?

Equally, did the car originally come with 17" wheels and you have fitted larger wheels?
If so, what changes did you make between them? (ie none, spacers or replaced suspension parts)

    Default Tyre cracking

The car was second hand. One previous business owner with fairly low miles and looked like the 19's had been a factory selected option. I have had it for over 3 years and have done quite a few miles. (80K)
No Mod's are apparent to standard 5 stud hubs.
Took the wheel off today as I was changing cam belt and the cracking is interspersed around the tyre so not complete. It is not evident on the outer tyre wall.
When the weight is off the tyre the crack is insignificant as photo but when that section is taking the weight of the car it opens up too around 2mm.
