    Default Starter motor help.

    1.9CDTi 120bhp z19dt.

Hi guys. I am still having a problem with the car cranking for a long time before bursting to live and spanner light still on with key turned to ignition but goes out immediately car starts. For those who are not aware, this problem started immediately DMF and clutch were changed. Things suggested and which I have changed so far are glow plugs, injector seals, leak off pipes, fuel and oil filter, new battery. I have just taken delivery of a new thermostat (don't know if that can cause the problem but the old one seem knackered anyway as temp gauge hardly moves).

Now I am sourcing a new starter motor with part number 55353857 in case the thermostat doesn't sort the problem as some people have suggested the problem could be the starter. The cheapest I have so far is £120 + my old starter (delivered) for a rebuilt Bosch starter.

Can anyone suggest where/if I can find a Bosch starter cheaper please?

Yes. Battery is ok. Got a new Bosch 5007 with a higher cranking power than the old one fitted and still same problem.

When you say "clogged up", do you mean the starter can be removed and cleaned out? Sorry if I sound naive.

My DMF and Clutch were replaced 5 months ago and my starter had to be done 2 months ago.. Similar probs to you slow start and dont know if you have this but a loud rattle bang just after it disengaged after a start and it was worse when warm.. All is sorted now sweet as a nut 1st turn start every time.. Good luck.

P.s would not clean the starter up as it may be the teeth on the starter that are worn..

+1 for starter motor though I do not have the rattle bang. The only difference is that all those who have mentioned that they had to change their starter after DMF change still used their starter for weeks/months before the starter had a problem but mine started before the car was brought down from the ramp after DMF change. Could the effect have been immediate?
