    Eek gear stick replacement

    ok so my gear knob abit worn so ive just got a whole thing out of another 2.2 my mate was breaking.

    you all know whats coming, how do i get the old 1 out and the new 1 in

    the new 1 is the whole thing with the black casing and 4 screw holes on the bottom of it and it even has the cables runnin to the shaft wich takes me to another question, how do i get the 2 cables of the new gear stick so i can some how clip my old cables to it that run throug the car

    any help is much appreciated

    Can't you just change the knob? Do you need to do all of it?

    been told you cant change the knob it needs to be the whole thing

    It's easy to do mate , have a search on here under my name or VXR gear knob , should take you 20 mins :-)

    jus had a look at your post and being fair you make it sound really easy lol. what do i do with that other cable to get it of though? not the ball joint one the one on the side

    What other cable mate ? Mine is a 2.2 Direct and am sure there is only one cable lol

    theres one connected to the bottom of the gear stick on the ball joint and another one to the left of it as well

    Take out the trim and lift up the gaiter.
    According to Haynes, you make room by taking out ash tray etc so you can disconnect the cables from the gear stick. (You can probably see on your replacement how to disconnect the cables). You then unto the 4 bolts and out comes the old one. Install the new one (without the cables) then connect the cables, The tricky bit is to get the correct adjustment on the cables - there are some sort marks where the cables connect to the gear box, under the bonnet. Set the gearstick to match the marks and tighten the cables and test.

    and heres me thinkin it was going to be a 5 minute job, gonna ave a go at tacking it this weekend and see how far i get
