hi all can anyone help my vectra c (55 plate pre-face lift) has developed a clunking noise o/s front when moving off slowly and turning left or right . i have jacked up the car today but could not see anythink loose or broken thanks !
did u give the drop link a wiggle?
As above drop links even though they might look ok they could still be knackered
checked my drop link this morning all seem fine no play in it any ideas i what else it might be cheers !
Engine mount bolts! Mine worked loose by the flexi exhaust pipe.
I had this recently.... I thought it was a broken spring... but further investigation showed it was the top mount on the suspension...
When I had someone turn the wheel of the car from side to side slowley when the car was still on the deck I found the spring was jumping in it's seat slightly.. an almost jerkey motion.
Anyway.. the upshot of it was two new top mounts later (and a full set of eibacks after convinving the wihle the springs were also at fault ) and the noise stopped when turning the wheel...
I have, however a new sound... when the car has sat over night then I pull away i get creaking from the suspension. only lasts seconds and there is no visibale signs of issues with drop links etc... assume it is just the suspension growning lol....
So,,, to come back tot he topic in hand.. i would be if it's not the drop links then its the top mount(s).
now only clunking when i am turning left or right replaced the o/s front strut when brought the car aug last year (coil spring was broke) . been told it could be the ball joint or cv joint driving me mad now !
check the top mount, CV joint, track rods etc...
Jack the car up and shake the wheel with hands at 9 & 3 and 12 & 6 to see if there is any movment....
try the test i sugested. also try smoving the spring from side to side. if it's moving then the top mount could be away as sugested...
are the drop links and ball joints on ebay anygood dont want to waste my time or money if they are no good !
+1
After all my comments about fixing the creeking noise on my suspension with new top mounts and springs then dam noise is back today. Only can be heared when the car is stationary... noise is fromt he front passenger side and only when I tune the steering... Sounds like a creeking, clunking noise as if the spring is jerking round.
As I know the top mounts are fine (brand new) and the springs are new and soundly fitted I can only assume the drop links are knackered (even though they had no play in them when checked while doing the springs...)...
So do I buy them from euro car parts or do I buy them from Ebay?
