    Default Engine Temperature Reading

    Afternoon guys (Happy New Year),

I'm having bother with my Engine temp dial in car. Before any bother it would warm up normally and sit at around 85. Now it sometimes does read a temp other times not at all. It could read temp in the engine on a motorway then when you come off the temp would drop back down to zero again. I am getting heat ok in the car, everything seems to be working ok, I just dont like getting bum readings. I had the engine thermostat sensor replaced last week, and it hasn't made much of a difference.

    Any ideas???

Which engine? Was the whole unit swapped, including the temp sender unit, or was it just the thermostat itself that was changed?

Sorry, 1.9cdti 150. I believe it was just the sensor. I seen it in the packaging before they fitted it. It was like a brass type colour pipe.

    Thanks for any help.

Hi Gerry, the sensors on the Cs don't read in small incraments as the weather gets colder the gauges tend to stay low untill you work the engine as on motorways,as long as your heater is still giving you normal heat you will be ok .the only cure is another sensor but the new one may not be any more sensative

I've got the 150, has always done been funny with the temp guage, even did an almost non stop 1200 mile trip to czech republic in it with it showing zero most of the time, unless i get in a jam and then it sits around 80.
As long as ur getting hot air i wouldnt worry.

Evening all, I hear what your saying but I've had the car 3 odd years now and I never noticed it like this in the past two winters when it has been cold!!

I drove home this evening from work 45 mins, and it hardly moved until I was just getting home, and even then it was barely registering anything.

Is this something I just have to accept or is there a fix??
