Default DMF Issue on a secondhand 1.9

    Hi guys

I bought a 55 Vectra 1.9 CDTI 120 about two weeks ago. At the time I didn't notice any noise from the vehicle so happily accepted delivery.
For the past week I've noticed a fairly loud rattling when the engine is cold that clears up when the engine is warm. I suspect it's the DMF.
Have I got any legal rights on the dealer to fix or refund? I don't fancy paying out hundreds of pounds to fix a car I've just bought, hell, I can't afford it now.

That's kind of good news. I presume it's the DMF because when I press the clutch you can here it rumbling.
It's bugging me because it's a great car aside from this issue. Better than my Vec-B V6

get it diagnosed properly & then speak to the dealer, or go back to the dealer & get them to diagnose the rattle, my old dmf would knock like a trooper until the engine was warm & then was quiet... it was like that for about 30+ k miles then it would knock all time... Trading standards will tell you the garage should honour around 3 months warranty regardless of what the dealer tells you

In the cold they bang and clonk and as the engine heats up the noise dies down abit. They rattle/chatter when the clutch is held at biting point when in neutral. Good news is they last a long time - mine has lasted 110k in this condition so it's not the end of the world if the dealer says no.

You only bought it two weeks ago, I thought you had rights for up to 28 days after the pruchase. Go speak to them see what they say. I would also email them and send a letter as well to inform them of problem that way you can say it was reported within a reasonable time of the purchase.

Good advice from you guys, many thanks.
I've booked it into Perry's for diagnosis. I've emailed the seller and now on my way to confront him (politely) with the issue.
    Fingers crossed

If you bought it privately you will have no come back on the seller even if it does need replacing.

To the OP my advice was if you had bought it from a dealer. You mentioned you took delivery of it so I assumed it was a dealer and not a private seller.

No mention of a private sale... the OP certainly implies he got it from a dealer with the opening statement

    Yes it was a dealer
Saw him today and his mechanic comfirmed the DMF was ******ed and he agreed to fix it. He whacked it under warranty there and then, asked me to come back in two weeks so he can claim on the warranty lol
Cheeky, but at least I didn't have to go through the usual BS.
