Default fed up of 19" tyre prices for snowies

Is it just me or do you seem to be forever buying new tyres for your 19'' wheels! I had 4 cheap fullrun tyres on my 17" sri alloys for 2 years! But now ive got 19's they seem to want rubber more often! They currently have firestone firehalks on that havnt lasted half as long! I seem to be forever needing new tyres. Is there a reason. like the 35 profile or what? Im thinking of changing to a smaller wheel, what do you think would be a worthy comprimise on a preface vectra, i like to keep oem look

So is it a fact that they wear faster than say a 215/50/17? Snowflakes are only designed for a rich man! Lol

I've made my 19's last for a lot more miles than you guys.... always went for Vredestein or Falkens... rated highest for durability aswell as good reviews on grip etc

Most of the popular big brand tyres are a softer compound and wear like nothing else

Cheap brands last longer! But think ive had enough of harsh ride too, and permantly scared of kurbs so im going to be looking to get some smaller wheels anyway. All the potholes around here send me up the wall avoiding all the time! There was even a big pot hole on motorway lastweek i saw!

I've spoken to my local tyre fitters about this. Trouble is with very little sidewall to absorb shocks etc., the tread just gets everything transferred to it, especially when you've got stiffer suspension. Also because most of these tyres are designed for real high performance like a Porsche 911, they tend to be soft compound for hanging on at crazy speeds!
I think 18 inch is about the best compromise for these cars, it's just 19s and 20s look soooo gooood!

i drive nice and slow all the time , around 20 mph round islands and very rarely get past 35 on normal roads and i avoid high speed cornering were you scrub the tyre off like mad , i dont brake hard and have managed to make a set of KENDA cheap ass £80 a tyre last nearly 2 years and 24,000 miles and they are still not even half way down , peaple moan about tyres not performing in the wet cos there cheap , well just go slow and think ahead brake early and you wont need to find out how good they perform at 60 mph through a corner , call me boring but like me old dad used to say " if ya break it you pay for it "

I bought my XP Vec with 19" snowwies as standard. So far have covered 27k on sunny tyres and there still seems to be a few thousand miles left in them.
