confused Need a new desktop any ideas?

Desktop has finally died after an upgrade with the main harddrive going and the motherboard not really coping with Windows 7 and 4GB Ram and kept crashing after a few months

So time for a new one but there are so many different specs not really sure what I need!

I normally use it for downloading movies/music and running Office as I do a lot of reports/spreadsheets, editing the occasional photos and running mutiple apps like downloading, converting VOB/MP4, running office (couple of excel/word docs at the same time)

My last PC was running ASUS M2A-MX motherboard Dual Channel AM2&AMD, with 4GB RAM and will run OS Windows 7 Ultimate

Not too worried about a graphics or sound card as I never watch movies or play games on the desktop

Any advice would be greatly appreciated and looking for something around £350.

I have tried to re-install windows 7 on 3 different HD's and no luck. All HD have been re-formatted now and on the main one I have had to re-install W7 at least once a month as various bits seem to get "lost" and stop it from working. I have even tried to install Wins XP on all 3 HD and no luck there either.

get ya pc running right then set a restore point ... then when it goes wrong, you can just restore it

Yep tried that before re-formatting anything and although I had set the pc to restore every 5 days it did not recognise any restore points. I even had Yamicsoft (Windows 7 manager) to try and iron out some problems and that helped if I used it every day but the damn thing still kept freezing and crashing

by looking what hardware you had, i dont think you need a new system. it maybe just a bad install of windows and wrong drivers for the hardware. it could even be one of your memory sticks playing up

im the type of guy that dont let nothing beat me,
but if you have the money then go treat yaself lol

    Hi Lee,

Have you considered making the change to an iMac? Apple machines are far superior to anything a windows OS machine can do. For your budget you get something pretty decent second hand, You can even partition some of the memory to run windows too.

As the saying goes, once you've had Mac you'll never go back

My bro bought a Mac and swears by it but I've not really had a play around with one to be honest. What are the downsides to an iMac? Apart from running the programs I use on Windows?

I don't think that there are any. You can buy windows office mac version, word, excel, powerpoint, outlook express and windows messenger.
As said you can partition a section of memory and have a windows OS fully installed if you like.

You can also use this for windows software on a mac http://mac.appstorm.net/how-to/virtu...-wine-bottler/
