We're abouts are you pulling on the cable?

Can you get into the mechanism it's self with a long flat blade screwdriver?

Get someone to push down and lift the bonnet repeatedly as you pull the cable. This should hopefully free it.

Sounds like the bonnet is not pushing up on it's rubber stops, thus not leaving the catch disengaged after you've pulled the cable. Had this on my old Vec B, Once the bonnet is up, there is 2 rubber bumpstops on the bonnet that can be adjusted by unscrewing them from their mount to increase the lift when the bonnet is down.

Sounds like the cable has slackened so it has come adrift at both ends hence why the paddle and the release do not work

If you look through the lh slats in the bonnet grille up to the center of under the bonnet you'll see the large pin, directly behind that is the metal loop/eye that the cable locates into. It'll be about an inch away from the end of the cable.
Try and get your hand in there and get someone to bounce on the front of the bonnet whilst you pull the eye with your fingers towards the passenger side until it pops.

0-Large smile ......every time it's driven
