    Default Gear Knob Removal

I've bought a new replacement leather part for the standard 6 speed gear knob on my wifes car but I can't for the life of me get the old one off

I've been searching the net and keep reading that it must be cut off

Surely this can't be true can it?

Anyone managed to get the old one off and reuse it?

    Cheers team

I took mine off yesterday. Get a hammer with a good flat head, put the car into 1st or reverse and give it a couple of solid upwards wacks on the bottom edge. It does slightly mark it but not obviously.... Oh and watch out for flying springs.

I'll get out this afternoon and give it a go. Why couldn't they just put a screw on or a holding pin it would make more sense

It does come off easily. Mine did in my hand whilst driving. A good whack and it was back on.
So yes I guess a whack from below should get it off. It's on a tapered plastic spine inside the knob.
