Default V6 CDTi spanner ligt on

Tonight on my way home from work the spanner light came on in V6 CDTi and the car lost power, now I had a look in the hand book and it states that on the 1.9CDTi to change the fuel filter as water can get into it, so was wondering if if would be the same with the V6 or could some thing be causing it?

    Thumbs up

You need to get the ECU read, and record the error codes and any other data recordings. Its not a good idea to guess as it could be very costly....

Did it reset when you switched off and restarted? Mine used to drop into limp home mode every now and then but I never needed to fix it, just a restart used to do the job.

My old alfa used to do this too, driving uphill, and under load. Turns out it was overboosting and the ecu knocks off the fuel before it causes damage. I've also seen this issue as the VNT vanes sticking due to carbon/soot build-up in the turbine housing of the turbo. Have a look through the list below first, likely to be an easy fix.

    Things to check:
Vacuum solenoid for turbo actuator (clean it if possible)
    Vacuum pipes (check for splits/deterioration)
    EGR (clean if sooted)
    ECU codes read

If it helps you out any, the wifes came on the other day due to the vac pipe being split, went into limp mode whilst going up a hill.

Yet another 2005 Y30DT with this (similar) erratic fault
We could take a guess at what it might be

As above, have the code read whilst still active
If the warning light is on, but not in safe mode, you should still be able to get the code read

How many times has this happened?
Was the engine cold / still warming or hot?

Have the uprated SCV been fitted?
How long have you owned the car?
Is it covered by Network Q, warranty, or third party warranty?

With respect to the handbook, ignore any references to the 1.9 CDTI, as the 3.0 V6 CDTI is an Isuzu engine
Equally, there should be two pages with diagrams of the engine bay

I don't know if the SCV has been ever changed, I've owned it now for 18 months and its not covered by any warranty. Also she is the facelift model if that makes any difference?

Of its up hill and on boost my first port of call would be a dirty boost sensor. Mine suffered with that in those conditions. Also free to check how clean it may be. Also how old is the fuel filter? Look into that before jumping to expensive scv's.
