Default electric tailgate opening when car unlocked

    Hi All

I have a 56 plate vectra estate with a electric tailgate..

I keep getting a intermittent fault (happens for a week or so at a time) where I press the button on the fob to unlock the car the electric tailgate opens, Secondly the buttons on the tailgate to open and close the tailgate also stop working..

    Any ideas?

    Thanks
    Steve

Probaly a fault in the switch at the inside of the tailgate.. theres getting water in the switch.. replace switch and clean the plug for rust and other stuff, and when working againg fill it with silicone or other water reisitant stuff.

Mine went through a stage of opening when I turned off the engine. All seems ok now though.

Connected a opcom to the car today and found a error code

B1542 - Trunk Release Switch Stuck

So set about removing the switch/button on the tailgate, Took the interior panel of the tailgate and disconnected the cable from the switch, The button to close the tailgate started working again and the tailgate did not open by itself when the car was unlocked... thus i then knew that it was the switch.

Dismantled the switch and used a mutli-meter to check the micro-switch, all was working correctly, so looked at the rest of it and found that the metal plate that pushes against the switch was getting stuck and thus kepping the micro-switch pressed... cleaned it up and re-assembled everything and all now seems to be working correctly..

Would have cost me £££ if i'd taken it to a vauxhall garage..

I know how I did mine. Poxy CATS!

If those FFFF****ING CATS didn't keep using my shed pent roof as a scratch pad, the felt would not have torn@blown off, so I wouldn't have loaded a roll of roofing felt in the back (of the estate) and got tar marks on the rear carpet panel. Then I need not have scrubbed the tailgate carpet and got the switch wet. And its still raining!!!!

I might use empty a 30 second burst of solvent cleaner in it
