    Default Anyone had this happen???

got a deseil 16V 2L cdti engine. You can travel along for miles and no problem, all of a sudden the car just cuts out, exactly like I have turned off the key.

HOW do these fuel pumps work; Do they have a cut off valve somewhere on the fuel pump, or does it stop via an electrical sensor connected to the ECU?

Once it stops, wait 30 secs then it drives again and starts perfect. This fault is so intermittant its hard to trace. But it just stops and seems like the fuel shut off valve (if its got one) has been closed.

    Any help pleasssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

    Many thanks.

2.0 Ltr DTI as I suspected. Hmmm Intresting I had the same problem with my 2.2 DTI (Its fixed now) It would run fine and then just cut out.

have you noticed and hics/hesitation when accelerating?
does your car have a TPS (throttle position sensor, a small black plastic box next to the boost sensor?) on your upper inlet manifold (throttle body). some do and some don't.

From the symptoms it is not the fuel cut off valve
Once that has activated it has to be replaced (similar to an air bag, once used destroyed)

Take the car to a diesel fuel pump specialist for diagnostic check
Should cost you about £40 and takes about 20 minutes

If the fuel pump has indeed failed the issue will get worse over the next 1000 miles and will eventually seize
As above, prepare to part with £1000 plus

If the TPS has failed the car should lose power and then idle only
Having the engine switch off during normal driving is quite extreme

well its just happy to plod along, no warning, no hesiatation just as fast as a bomb, it just turnes itsself off. no warning lights no ecu fault codes. How does the car stop running, i.e is their an air flap or a stop solinoid. I need to find out the engine stops once you turn off the keys, ????
