Default Is a Vx service just getting worse

Had my car serviced at Vx and booked it in for the Winter £129 service

Drop the car off and 3 hours later get a call to say its completed

They proceed to tell me that all the tyres are "RED" (They use a traffic light system) because they are 3.5mm and I need new tyres ASAP. When I stated that the legal limit was 1.6mm so still had another 1.9mm to go they said fine. I also noted that "Budget" tyres now include Michellin and Goodyear

The rear brake pads were 90% worn and the all brakes discs were rusty. Again I said its been raining overnight and its been sitting on the drive for a week unused so they will go rusty, which she agreed. I also asked how they got the wheels off to check the brake discs/pads when I forgot to give them the locking wheel bolts and was told they looked through the wheel. (15" steel wheel with 1" holes in it)

They then asked me if I wanted a £49 injector cleaner performed on my car because of the high mileage (104k) and I said no I use Redex every few months and was told this is bad as it rots the seals in the injectors.

Got to admit if it was not just keeping up the service history I would not bother but Vx just seem to be losing the plot on servicing

I have used a local garage before but the guy left who always looked after our cars. Seems like dealers want to charge the earth for a service but not actually bother to do it

It's not just Vauxhall that do this though, it's pretty much all major dealerships/service centres. Had it happen a few times with mine and relatives cars, took my grandads ford ka in for a service for him when I was about 18, they must of though here we go young lad he won't have a clue, let's sting him! Said it needed 4 new tires and new discs and pads, what they didn't known is that I'd just done the discs and pads about 3 month ago and the tires had at least 4-5mm all round! They'll try their luck whenever they can, afterall it's all about sales sales sales....

Renault did the same when my dad bought a brand new megane, went in for it's first service at 13.000 miles and they said it needed new discs and pads! I don't think so not unless there making them out of paper mâché these days

Stick to servicing myself now though, least you know the jobs done properly and your not getting ripped off

My Fiat 500 is due its second year service.

So I called Fiat and asked for a quote on the 2nd year service for my 59 reg 1.2 8v Fiat 500 with 16,000 miles on it.

    Quoted £420

I asked why so much. They said well we need to change the oil, oil filter, pollen filter, air filter, spark plugs, head gasket & brake fluid.

I said WTF... head gasket !!... its only done 16,000 miles from new.

Oh ok... well maybe not the head gasket then so we'll reduce the price to £388

    Erm.... no thanks

Bought all the parts myself from Opie Oils on here and got everything I need for £58

    Do it myself thanks.

    Oh... and just to add...

They said but if I dont get it serviced by them I will lose my warranty.

I said how long does my warranty last for...?

They said up to 3 years.

I said well I only have 1 year to go then, so I'll just chance it thanks. The £350 I just saved can go towards a new clutch or exhaust or suspension, if I need it

And I told him it would still be under warranty anyway if I get an independant garage to service it with genuine Fiat parts.

    Bye bye....

Oh... and the dealer threw in the comment that the car wouldnt be worth as much if it doesnt have the full dealer history FIAT stamps in it.

I said these cars are worth nothing anyway. Stamps or no stamps, its a recession

The dealership I use doesn't even bother reporting this section to me anymore, they know what my response will be!

I agree though and RED should be 2.0mm and less (ie wear indicators reached) or other issues that require notification to owner
If you think 3.5mm is RED, I received one for a tyre with 7.5mm
I asked them to send the technician that checked my vehicle and show me the tyre, as I expected a nail or bulge, "er, that tyre is fine, looks like I ticked the wrong box"

The choice if tyres is based on what is currently fitted
However the dealership I use just puts "225/45R17 Goodyear not available"

The thing that really gets me is they used to CHECK and CHANGE the tyre pressures on every visit
I had a big argument as a result and they now know NOT to touch them!
As posted before, the 3.0 V6 CDTI didn't appear in the list they were using so were using those from the 1.9 CDTi
